Within the sphere of the human innate view... phenomena have a reality that is compelling. Other realms also have different innate views and reality appearances. The Prasangika Madhyamika view is the highest and most logical of all the schools of Buddhism. It affirms that.... indeed, things do exist but just not in the way that you think that they do. - Domo Geshe Rinpoche --- Healing relaxes the tightness and inner aggression that has made us unsuitable to achieve our potential. ~ Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~~~ "Durch Heilung entspannt si...

Helping the Downtrodden and other Buddhist musings....

If you are now in your middle years, you might find that the ups and downs of life have taken a toll. By now, you could be feeling a little ragged around the edges, like a rug that has been taken out and beaten too many times. On the other  hand, even though your fringe have become a bit frayed, oddly….. you still have curiosity. You are now a good candidate for the dharma. - Domo Geshe Rinpoche --- Although the Rinpoches (reincarnate lamas), primary responsibility was to disseminate the Dharma and assist through inner and outer methods toward understanding higher real...

Buddhist Podcast, Awakening and Defined by Our Problems?

Image
We already know that it is possible to change our mind because we do it hundreds of times a day! We feel hungry, and then eat a little bit and then we don’t feel hungry. Later we might feel thirsty, and then not. We are happy, and then cha nge to feeling sad. When a cheerful phone call comes in, a good mood lasts for a while, everything looks brighter, but then comes another phone call with some terrible news, and our mental outlook becomes dark and frightening. For most people, the whole day goes on like this, bonding identity to changeable states of mind.  What Buddhism teaches us is that changeable states of mind, feelings and moods are not our actual nature but are the mental experiences that come and go with great regularity over an actual nature that is free from emotional strife. This is what we call the changeable mind. The dharma trains us to view them as passing and not take the ups and downs so seriously. Eventually, we will mostly feel peaceful and free from the se...

Stopping Thinking, Winter Meditation Retreat, Free Podcast and other musings

" Everything costs something... war, love, food, public infrastructure, peace, education... everything! How the statistics of that cost are manipulated is pure politics! By giving weight to certain statistics while withholding others costs can make even the cost of beneficial programs or attitudes seem intolerable. Logic and compassion are common sense partners in considering the many kinds of cos ts we as individuals or as a society are willing to spend: time, money, change in attitudes, shift in power and so much more. Don't let politics ruin your life!

The Healthy Ego, White Conch and other Buddhist musings...

Image
It is the healthy ego that experiences the transformation of enlightenment.... now to gain understanding regarding what is a healthy ego.  Ego is an organizing principle and tool and should become trained and purified before abandoning it. Otherwise it would be like abandoning your ship on the way to a destination. However, the eventual dismantling of the ego/innate view structure still does not c ause reality to arise. It is simply a new platform to work from, where personal issues are not primary.

Cosmic Correction, Time Itself, White Conch and other musings

Image
The selfish person silently invites themself to be harmed because self-cherishing is a distortion of perfection, the actual basis of all life. The self-absorbed view calls out for cosmic correction and realignment with reality. However, th ere’s no one there to help out in a manifest way except other self-cherishers, so they spend a great deal of their precious time together slapping and smacking on each other. Back and forth, back and forth, they harass and produce more negativity, making karma that reinforces habitual harming. Then, out of concern for their own safety, the ensuing suffering increases self-cherishing, making others who come into contact with them an object of further harm. Buddhism suggests that if we are suffering, it is because we have been practicing the selfish view and are experiencing its cascading effects. The way to heal is not by blaming ourselves, but by blaming self-cherishing itself! If the self-cherishing that has been haunting us ...

What does retreat do for us?

Image
Today is the 16th and final day of White Conch summer retreat. A day of teaching on stabilizing realizations and steadying energies to return to work tomorrow for many, meditation, prayers of dedication and thanks, celebration, taking down of tents and cleaning retreat items for the next retreat. There are also a number of people continuing retreat who will see the others off to a safe journey. Although nothing moves, and all occurs within perfection itself, we act with full joy and dedication to achieve our many spiritual goals. "The sons (and daughters) of the Buddha all practice this way" ... Good morning from the Hermitage! Einige Leute bl...
