A Blast of Enlightenment and other Buddhist musings.....

Image
The awakening blessing is not like the gentle cascade of illuminating wisdom described in our meditation practice to be poured into our everyday mind that can be used for our spiritual growth. Of course, we want and need free time to meditate. We also want the Buddha to cause our lives to become suitably rearranged for more spiritual emphasis that is called leisure and endowment in Buddhist term inology. This is correct thinking and requesting. However, that will not be nearly enough leisure and endowment to cause the actual awakening. After a great deal of preparation, we must then sincerely make the request for a tremendous burst of illuminated power and energy, like a flash of lightning, to open the door to our enlightened true nature.

Come out of Hiding....

Image
The contents of the everyday mind: illusory displays and illusory learning experiences are a solidified structure held around the process of preparation waiting for the window of opportunity to begin transformation. New delight in compassi on, faith in higher reality and desire for contemplation grows as the walls of the structure begin to thin. Virtue seems more reasonable and easier than the self-centered view of life.  This emerging specialized mind of wholesomeness and virtue will now function as the main support to hold the now aligned energies so that awareness can go inside properly. You will then experience a new form of virtue that is the real power of purity; only then will mind itself fall away to reveal the awakened awareness that is free from confusion. Everyday mind, wholesome mind and strength of purity mind were the support for important transformations that you needed by using the amazing tool of the expandable mind. ~ Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~~~ "Der Inhalt des Al...

Dialogue with Students, Facing Problems

Image
Pure illusory is how the Buddhas emanations are present in the human realm and also how they reside in the god realms. The process that creates the illusory has a less dense appearance which is the emanator. This is not complicated unless  we are upside down in our thinking by believing that the gross is capable of emanating subtle forms and not the other way around! The main problem is the contamination of the illusory...like someone running after a mirage of water, trying to get a drink! Illusory only means that the appearance is not the actual way it exists... An important part of Buddhist study and meditation is to correct errors by penetrating meanings and correcting the view. As a Buddhist teacher, I am very aware of new buddhists who are looking for a religion that matches what they already believe; if it doesn't.. they leave to find another place that "resonates" with their own ideas! Those that stay will find new meanings ... ~ Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~~~ “ Es...

Joy of Compassion, Podcast: Intelligent Faith and other Buddhist musings.....

Image
Compassion is more than simply relieving the suffering of living beings. It is not connected to sadness, it is healing. That would be like the difference between the joy a doctor feels when he/she knows what to do in a difficult situation a nd the shock felt by an unskilled bystander. The deeper forms of compassion are even more joyful, there is no sadness at all-- ~ Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~~~~~ "Mitgefühl bedeutet mehr als lebende Wesen von ihrem Leiden zu befreien. Es hat keinen Bezug zur Traurigkeit, es ist Heilung. Dies ist so wie der Unterschied zwischen der Freude, die ein Arzt/eine Ärztin fühlt wenn er/sie weiß, was in einer schwierigen Situation zu tun ist und dem Schock, den ein nicht ausgebildeter Anwesender dabei verspürt. Die tieferen Formen des Mitgefühls sind sogar noch freudvoller; bei ihnen gibt es gar keine Traurigkeit mehr." - Domo Geshe Rinpoche --- The Difference Philosophy tells us what to think, psychology helps us deal with that!  "Der Untersc...

Thoughts on Circular Time and Virtue

Image
We will become transformed by our virtue and by no other means. Virtue is the natural path of evolutionary development toward Perfect Awakening called Complete Buddhahood. The pure lands are places where living beings are inspired by clarity which manifests as beneficial conduct called virtue. - Domo Geshe Rinpoche --- Some say time is circular, but as perceptual beings, how could we experience that? It certainly is possible to open to a more vast view of time in the present moment, (actually the only time we are alive). We can and do predict that a future exists by ex...

Virtue Takes Time to Develop

Image
Virtue takes time to develop. Our bruised and confused root of virtue previously bestowed by the awakened Buddha has become diminished by redirected toward self cherishing for a very long time. Now we wish to use it for its original purpose,a high quality and rapid finalizing of preparation for our own awakening and ... enlightenment. This holy day of full moon Sakya Dawa, the month of celebration of the Buddhas vast activities, is a good opportunity to refresh our resolve to grow in virtue! Blessings and ♥ ♥ ♥ for Sakya Dawa. Increasing Virtue... is a Virture

Image
Virtue is spontaneous kindness that arises from deep values that are stable in our minds. However, until the benefits of our cultivated extraordinary root of virtue arrives, we should treat our potential for virtue as garden nurseries do their plants in the early spring to make them flower sooner. They force grow them with Miracle Grow. The vitamins of Buddha Dharma brand Miracle Virtue Grow are filled with love for others and self- respect. This rich compound also contains a healthy dose of Vitamin Discipline to turn our stubborn minds toward the light of the blessings of the Buddha as sunflowers follow the sun. If we cultivate qualities such as virtue and maintain a positive outlook in the early spring of our lives, by the summer we shall blossom abundantly. Moreover, if we wait until the late summer of life to begin to mature, by adding Miracle Grow, we shall still have virtue blossoms for all to enjoy come fall! ~Domo Geshe Rinpoche~~~ "Tugend ist spontane Güte, die aus ...

Looking for Inspiration in Our Own Practice

Image
There are ups and downs in how we feel while practicing meaningful change. If we observe what works well, we have great joy and feel inspired to go on and stabilize new perceptions with new found methods. It is equally important to discover what does not work when we experience or cause suffering by using old strategies that separate us from virtuous goals or feel that we are plagued by bad luck. If we seek only positive reinforcement, then it is not easy to do good practice, because we again become tight and clenched, wanting to only receive happiness in our learning process. In the open space of correct practice, whatever experiences that come, positive or negative, teach us about virtue. Only then can we really think that we have a good Buddhist practice ~ Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~~~ Wenn wir durch unsere Praxis bedeutungsvollen Wandel anstreben verspüren wir dabei Höhen und Tiefen. Wenn wir beobachten was gut funktioniert, erleben wir große Freude und fühlen uns inspiriert, um we...

Maintain Good Relationships with Everyone

Image
" It is reasonable and skillful to maintain good relationships with everyone we come into contact with as we progress in the path toward enlightenment. That means, as we discover virtue and high thinking to be more expressive and creative, we do not push away living beings but seek commonality to maintain lines of communication.

The Power of Karma (last and part nine)

Image
You are probably thinking that experiencing karma is completely in the gross physical or mental levels of being, but that is not true. It is experienced in both the subtle level as well as arising into the denser manifestations of karma, which culminate in physical events, as well as becoming your environment. It is in the outer world, but you are experiencing it through the filter of your magic charm: the mass of your karma that is yet unfulfilled because suitable conditions have not arrived. Student: I like the movement from subtle to manifest as you say, so the question for me that comes is, okay, if it comes from that subtle plane, it has to have a pathway into the gross plane. What is that pathway? Rinpoche: That is you standing with the door open, saying, " Let the disaster begin." Student: Oh, in that case, are you going to teach us how to shut the door to bad karma coming from our subtle reality? Rinpoche: Karma is actually a subject for very long periods...

The Power of Karma (part eight)

Image
Those who possess a mind of virtue often do not notice negative behaviors in others, which is a tremendous blessing. For instance, a person might say something just awful, but virtuous ears automatically close, " What? Did you say something to me? ” Even standing close by, he or she cannot hear negativity very well because the karma and mind of virtue cannot experience it. They have little supporting perceptions to be alert to negativity! Do you know someone like this? Has it ever happened to you? What a blessing. Student: How can we experience a virtuous sense but still avoid the judgments associated with it? Rinpoche: What possible judgment would you make against your own virtue? Student: I might judge my virtue to be the best of the virtues. Rinpoche: Oh I see. This sounds like competitive virtue. I do not think it qualifies. I believe there is even a phrase for this: Holier than thou. Nope, that would not be virtue. We can all recognize someone acting holi...

The Power of Karma (part seven)

Image
Earlier, the discussion on karma turned to gaining understanding how terrorists could deprive innocent people of their lives. Now, let us to take a bit more time with our dual reasoning in gaining understanding of karma. It is extremely important that we never use karma as a weapon against someone when we should exhibit compassion. The opportunity to exhibit our capacity and skill in compassion should further crack open our hardened hearts out of concern for the suffering family members of, for example, victims of terrorist attacks, as well as the victims themselves, for their life stolen from them. In addition, but as a separate issue that is unconnected to the victim/criminal dynamic, we learn to have compassion for the perpetrators. This is because it is likely that they themselves will have to endure a similar event because of harming others, either in this life or in a future life. It is really so sad that a situation got to the point where the perpetrator felt the only cho...
