Politics, Logic and other Buddhist musings....

Explaining reality without direct cognition is like a bunch of unqualified presidential candidates expounding on international relations. - Domo Geshe Rinpoche --- Keep going because the benefits still outweigh the challenges. **** "Mach weiter, denn die Früchte deiner Bemühungen übersteigen noch immer die Herausforderungen" - DGR --- Correct meditation places your consciousness behind the veil of the discursive everyday use of your mind. Practicing relaxation before meditation, such as pranayama breath, will soften the chatter so consciousness can partially slide into a more steady parallel environment. ~ Domo Geshe Rinpoche * "Wenn Du korrekt meditierst, gelangt Dein Bewusstsein hinter den Schleier des umherschweifenden alltägliche...

Rough Problem Solving

Image
The supporting structure of the delusions is a primary agenda of self interest. Our problems are still being solved by means of our delusions because not only do we want to solve the problem, we want to win! When the day arrives that the problem is resolved whether we personally win or lose... that will be a turning point! - DGR ---"

Melting the Delusions

Image
Ice will definitely turn to water, with the right conditions. Skill is using that natural process to the best advantage. Like that, the mental solidification producing the confusions called delusions and suffering will begin to melt in correct practice. We can become pleased with the feelings associated with inner change and the melting of ordinary mind instead of fearing cultivated change. The energy freed up by that process can be applied to new growth, bringing us closer to awakening or enlightenment!

Helping Others With Smelly Delusions

Image
If you have no personal karma for suffering when taking on the difficulties of another, then you could even be a healer in the hell realm and feel satisfied, accomplishing important work. You would feel no disgust toward their impurity, as a skillful and well-trained nurse does not experience revulsion by sick people. However, if you continue to have the smell of the same delusion that another person is exuding, a perfume that overwhelms the mind, you will be caught up in their suffering confusion and possibly harm them instead of benefiting them. If you have rid yourself of most  delusions but still have the smell on you, it would be like removing taco sauce out of a jar, and washing it, but still the jar smells like taco sauce! It is useless using it to put anything of a more delicate nature into it. For a healer, or anyone who wishes to benefit others, a strong daily purification practice is very much needed to continue removing the stains remaining from the delusions. Four imp...

Life Saving Vow

Image
Most Buddhist practitioners go for refuge to the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha at the beginning of their meditation, upon rising and often just before bedtime. The mind is ripe and tidy at that time, nearly holy, and refuge is reasonable and pleasant. Now do it more skillfully; take refuge when you are angry, sad, grasping, hungry, jealous, worried or overstimulated. These are called secondary minds, arising and falling away as moods or stimulated by outside influences. More than the "holy you", these aspects of you need to take refuge and become tamed. This is how we conquer the worst parts of ourselves easily. We bind them to refuge vows!

The Path of Meditation (part five)

Image
This is a well-crafted question…. Student: We take vows before sitting for meditation to practice the six perfections of a Bodhisattva. The sixth of those is called wisdom. In meditation, in the context of karma or cause and effect, an effect of meditation would be the attainment of wisdom, is that correct? If it is, how do we differentiate between true wisdom and, to use your analogy, spam wisdom? Rinpoche: Because all untransformed beings are working with an unreliable operating system, you have a challenge to remain as objective as possible with higher motivation while meditating. That means a certain part of the mind monitors what you are doing so that you can apply remedies as you find the problem. The problem with this is that many people have this observer already alive in them, but it is being employed for other functions. This is the one that chatters to them about trivial matters, blames them for every little error, or can even make meditation unbearable by discontent fo...
