The Spirit of Losar: Asking Forgiveness

Image
Today is Tibetan New Year. Many Losar Tashi Deleks to each and all of you! May this coming year bring you prosperity, happiness and health! The Spirit of Losar: Asking Forgiveness In the spirit of the season we want to greet and wish others well at this time to especially focus attention away from ourselves and be more open to others. Perhaps we need a special holiday because sometimes we do not feel as open and warm toward others. Holding hurt feelings, misunderstandings while blaming ourselves or others diminishes our capacity to love. Losar is a time for fresh beginnings. Let's practice forgiveness to others as well as to ourselves for any problems that have caused us to close ourselves away from really being alive and happy! It only takes one person to practice forgiveness! ~Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~~~ ""Heute ist das tibetische Neue Jahr. Viele Losar Tashi Deleks für Euch alle! Möge Euch das kommende Jahr Wohlstand, Glück und Gesundheit bringen! Der Geist de

Buddhists of other Faiths

Anyone who is alert to, and demonstrating enlightened values is a Buddhist, no matter what religion they practice or even having no religion at all! Albert Schweitzer was a Buddhist, in my opinion. So was Gandhi, Padre Pio and Vivikananda! They might be called higher principles in the human realm but there are resources of higher principles beyond the veils of ordinary mind. T here are many who say they are buddhist, with simple good intentions that are not buddhist, or even close... if we use higher principles as a living guide. On the other hand, becoming a buddhist by taking refuge, becomin g a candidate for vows and holding steady good motivation is wonderful, just not the extraordinary. We always felt that the great ones, Pabonka Rinpoche, Je Tsongkapa and many others were alive in a unique way. I now honor and extend that to other awakened and extraordinary beings as time goes on. ~Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~~~ "Jeder der wach für erleuchtete Werte ist un d sie de

The Spirit of Losar: Making a Fresh Start

The Spirit of Losar: Making a Fresh Start Tibetan New Year falls on March 5th this year. Why not take some time thinking about and then resolving to make a fresh start by discarding what holds you back from your potential? Throw away or give away what you will not use or enjoy having. Reverse any bad decisions. Then take rest! Wirf alles weg, was Du nicht gebrauchen kannst oder was Dir keine Freude macht. Mach sämtliche schlechten Entscheidungen rückgängig. Dann ruh Dich aus!" - Domo Geshe Rinpoche ---

The Spirit of Losar: Cleaning Up

Image
The Spirit of Losar In the days before Losar (Tibetan New Year), people are kept busy cleaning. Of course, guests might be coming, but it is also a psychological relief to have a clean house. If we might think that the annual event of Losar will be celebrated with a clean house, why not really celebrate the spirit of New Year with a more purified mind? The great mantra of the Buddha of Higher Purification, Vajrasattva, is Om Vajrasattva Hum. Try reciting it while sweeping, doing dishes or taking a shower.

The Spirit of Losar

Image
The Spirit of Losar Many Buddhist but non-Tibetans or those interested in Tibetan culture want to have a taste of the way Tibetans celebrate Losar (Tibetan New Year). This comes on March 5th this year but for Tibetans, preparations begin long before and go on for some days after that date. As interesting as that might be, perhaps there is a way to celebrate Losar without the noise, drinking and rowdiness, which in my just previous life, caused me to escape during Losar time. This is in spite of the insistence of the monasteries who say that the first day of Losar should be spent in quiet prayer. However, most monasteries are emptied at that time, as most of the monks have vacation to go their family home. Discipline becomes relaxed, card and dice games are common until regular monastic duties are resumed. Some of us might be interested in some important themes we can celebrate to bring our spirituality into this New Year: cleaning and purification prayers, making a fresh start and aski

Who Can See Their Own Mind?

Image
Mind itself is invisible, we can only see its effects. In a similar way, more advanced activities of mind such as states of concentration in deeper meditation are invisible but the effects are far reaching. - Domo Geshe Rinpoche ---"

Unsmiling Rinpoches

Image
In the Tibetan traditional, the rinpoches always had serious demeanor and unsmiling. It was considered a sign of uncaring of deep responsibilities to smile and laugh- especially in public. Contact with western people has changed how we appear in public to always smiling so people feel happy. However, Tibetans felt happy when the reincarnate lamas were dignified and solemn. Fewer ups and downs are appreciated by newer meditators Use a proactive approach to feeling happy and purposeful! Great Vajrayogini is a Buddha level being. A Buddha! If you could live forever, what would you do? Perhaps if we lived forever, we might not take inconsequentials to be so important. We would have a longer range view. We might also consider that living forever might not always be in this form. This is actually the god realm view; although they do pass away, they have no preparation for that event. each realm has a specific programming that makes life steady. If one sees another realm from the POV
