A giant tree has a huge root system to nurture and hold it through rough weather and dry times. It holds its energy during the hard winter as sap, rising again when spring is warm enough to begin new growth. Traditional practitioners, (people who have been strong meditators in previous lives), are like this. Their root system is made from unactivated positive karma, virtue and merit that cushion hardships as well as inner connections with enlightened beings established during times of great progress. While waiting for the opportunity to continue their growth, some who are qualified to make effort in their present life do not, and instead become discouraged and stop looking for a suitable way of life to support their inner growth.
