Stopping Thinking, Winter Meditation Retreat, Free Podcast and other musings

"
Everything costs something... war, love, food, public infrastructure, peace, education... everything! How the statistics of that cost are manipulated is pure politics! By giving weight to certain statistics while withholding others costs can make even the cost of beneficial programs or attitudes seem intolerable.
Logic and compassion are common sense partners in considering the many kinds of cos
ts we as individuals or as a society are willing to spend: time, money, change in attitudes, shift in power and so much more. Don't let politics ruin your life! ~ Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

- Domo Geshe Rinpoche ---

"This week's podcast is titled "Elevating Consciousness: Part Two."

Where is this mind and who has seen it? How can you affect the mind to train it to be a helpful friend and not work against you? Domo Geshe Rinpoche leads a lively discussion on finding your heart-mind and “getting out of your head.”"

"
We don't need to stop feeling or thinking in order to deal with difficulties. We’re not without resources, even in times of trouble; we have our mind training to mentally help, calm and gain understanding of the situation. Not only will we be able to deal with difficulties, but we can relate to our experience of adversity with wisdom by applying the remedies of Lojong Mind Training. So, whatever
comes, we're ready for it! Bring it on!! When adversity comes, we’re not only ready, but enthusiastic to use it toward our awakening process. This is daily dharma! ~Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

- Domo Geshe Rinpoche ---

Yoga for Anyone:
Simplicity and the
Path of Buddhist Mantra
Dec. 28, 2012-Jan. 4, 2013
Those who have done only sitting meditation will benefit by first incorporating easy, then more advanced, yoga postures to regain flexibility. Rinpoche's teachings will focus on Buddhist training for the overly busy mind and other methods to bless ourselves with the joy of simplicity. For the benefit of more a
dvanced students, we will delve into a deeper understanding of the dynamics of mantra. A Green Wisdom Light initiation and the Rainbow Purification practice will be given.

Becoming Skillful in
Medicine Buddha Practice
Jan. 5-12, 2013
There is growing interest in Medicine Buddha, but few of those who received initiation or read books on the subject have dived into the practice.
Making deep connection with Medicine Buddha - to be of more help to others - requires special meditation time, with teachings and guidance to become truly competent. Medicine Buddha initiation will be given with these teachings.

Teaching dialogue:
For your own good mental health, give up vanity in all of the good things you have in your life: money, good home, great children, status in the community and more. They are all seductive forms of what is illusory.
Let’s visualize how that might feel. Rise up the thoughts of all the positives and then imagine how that would feel with pride and vanity removed.
Let’s take a few
minutes here. (pause) Very good. You all did it. Excellent. Do not forget, okay? The Sons of the Buddhas all practice this way. How did it feel?

Student: It felt like turning pride into gratitude.
Rinpoche: It turned into gratitude? Good.
S: The focus shifted to others because the identity wasn’t so wrapped up in the perceived connotations and denotations of circumstances. It was just something else.
R: Very good.
S: I was thinking about…to accept what is without the reactions to it, either….
R: No, you can be happy. We want you to be happy.
S: I’m going to wait until I’m clear on it.
R: Okay, you think about it. We have to be careful about trying to synthesize other teachings…you are better off gaining skill in this particular point without bringing in other points prematurely. Try not to combine other learnings into this. First gain this clearly.
S: It was like what was left was the real me.
R: Exactly. What was left was the real me. Yes.
S: It just felt, almost like for the first time, comfortable and happy that I don’t have to keep holding.
R: Excellent.
S: When I thought about the possessions or whatever, the wealth in whatever form, I could feel that there was some kind of like, identification with it. So then, when I tried to release the pride or whatever, then it felt so light, it was just like it was nothing.
R: Excellent. This is how we need to be. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

R: Genau. Was übrigblieb war das wirkliche Ich. Ja.
