Let’s slow down a bit to change our view mindfully by training ourselves to respect objects. For example, I have here two pieces of paper that have not been here long, but they have been place together. It we wish to move one of the piec es of paper we could reflect that we are now removing this piece of paper from its present place here and move it with respect to the paper itself. Perhaps this clock was “happy” here on my desk. It had a certain energetic presence by settling in at this location, even though it is only a clock without a will of its own. So, when I move that clock because I decide that it would better over here, I should do so with respect and not roughly or arrogantly. The same goes for this paper, (thank you very much papers), I am going to move this here. Try it with something you have near you, move it with respect from where it is located, and placing it in a new location that either pleases you more, or you feel that “it” would be happier. His Holiness the Dalai Lama has now decided to step away from the political. I am happy that he will soon have time for other important activities, if he follows through by actually retiring. Beyond his personal needs, the idea has come up quite often that His Holiness will consider next reincarnating in a female form. Sadly, in the past, a lama reborn as a female would be considered a shameful and useless rebirth and the auspicious signs ignored. There are now, and in the future will be more male lineage rinpoches choosing rebirth without regard to gender. Some might feel that this is an issue of equal rights, however this is not an issue of equality, although that is important. This is a strength issue of another kind. There is also an issue of commitment, as many women want their full attention to go toward their families more than the larger commitment needed. This is beyond the actual selection process, which happens interior and not by the blessings of the Tibeta...

Very few have connecting karma to work on solving a problem and produce good results. There are others in the sphere of that activity who act as support for the one, such as the back stage or sound crew for someone like HH the Dalai Lama at the time of teaching. There are those who energetically support the process a nd still others with an inner connection to the action. The latter ones are those who should be praying. The rest of interested people are in various stages of training to become effective prayers, supporters or doers! Even in ordinary life, any valuable activity will be accompanied by conflict. It is nearly a sign of doing the right thing to have detractors. For example: His Holiness the Dalai Lama, a highly commendable person with few (if any) faults, is maligned by millions of people and many others who are taught to hate him. Je Pabongka Rinpoche, who lived an exemplary life was one of the greatest lamas of Tibet, and is quite regularly maligned after being gone about 70 years. Gandhi was killed out of hatred. The previous Panchen Lama was killed. Jesus was killed. Being maligned and insulted seems to be a feature in the lives of many great beings. Those who promoted environmental guardianship were told that they were crazy. Antiwar, ecology and even community currency advocates are still considered fringe lunatics to many. It might even seem that what is worth doing, is also considered worthy of becoming a target for insults or even death. However, complacency will whisper to us that if things ...

There are many different kinds of Dharma teaching. Some give information without any inner teaching ability. Others rarely or never speak and only give inner guidance and care. However, there are some who teach both inside and out, such as HH the Dalai Lama. I think I gained some confidence to teach when I finally understood that the English language is capable of supporting deep concepts. As a Tibetan, we felt that the carefully crafted Tibetan dharma words were too complicated to describe in English, so if people were serious students, they would be encouraged to study Tibetan language.
