Everyday Dharma

Image
We each have a compelling favorite sense: touching, listening, or perhaps eating. Some of you folks are quite slender while some of us are little bit more, shall we say, sturdy. The wind can’t blow us over. I read on the internet about a  big wind that caused a Chihuahua to blow away; they found it on a nearby mountain. The dog is okay. They called a psychic who told them it was up the mountain; they went up, and found the dog. I do not know if I believe the story or not, but it sounds cute and I have Chihuahuas, so….. Anyway, each of you has a particular sense which is your drug of choice. Some people eat candy, while others need ‘eye candy; it’s their sense of sight that they crave to feed. For others, it is the tongue; wanting to taste nice things. Other people need soft…if they wear itchy wool, they will almost go crazy. If their pillow is not exactly correct, they can’t sleep. However, some folks care nothing for food or clothing…they could wear the roughest clothing …in fac...

Buddhist Keys to Spiritual Success

Image
Many people seeking spiritual fulfillment eventually decide that what they really only wanted was to be comforted by spiritual truths. Any remaining anxiety of wishing to become enlightened then becomes the problem. The next step for them w ill require a respite of their spiritual urge. Those with this dilemma require a great deal of maintenance in order to hang onto a spiritual path to which they have made a genuine commitment. The way out of this dilemma is to appreciate the deeper commitment that is needed. A preliminary and superficial commitment to a path to make us feel a bit better will last only a short time; we will need to settle into the path in order to begin work for real change that will bring real comfort and happiness.

Quantum Transformation for Energy

Image
Early peoples discovered a quantum source of energy by burning wood! Any quantum object, (a material that exists in more than one way), has the potential for energy creation by destroying the natural barriers that hold its form stable. In that way, naturally, there would be many alternative sources of energy as long as the detritus of that process can be controlled in a safe manner. This is also the deep basis of transformation in the Tantras! -Domo Geshe Rinpoche-...

The Light of the Tantras

Image
We always want to remain where the light of the tantras is shining in our world. Just like nighttime with no moon, in a dry and desolate desert, if a bright light were shining down we would try to remain in that light. I remained in Tibet for a very long time, and still feel that, in today's world, Tibetan Buddhism is the closest representation, in other words, the bright shining light, of the Tantras that describe reality. Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~~~

"Some people might be thinking about going away for a tantric retreat and initiation sometime. It is so nice to go away for a spiritual weekend, sit in a nice rocking chair with a beautiful view out the window. Just sit and relax, bring a book that you wanted to read for a long time. You rock for a couple days and just blow away all the stress.

The Dumbing Down of Our True Nature (part eight)

Image
Many human perceptions are related to and give rise to feelings of solidity and permanence of the human experience. This is good! Before I said it was bad. Now I say this feeling of solidity is good. This is because it helps the actual beings emanated form, which is you, to take more seriously the work of preparation needed for transformation. By your experiences created through your senses and consciousness, you become capable of deeper understanding that you need to change and learn. The heaviness and sense of suffering, both subtle and manifest, should alert you to the dilemma and cause you to seek methods to become free. If you had no suffering, you would not want to leave, but leave you must. Therefore, we must overcome the innate view programming and awaken to another way of being; the next stage of the journey to perfection, our actual home. Now we understand more clearly that we do not want to damage the innate view prematurely on our way to the transformed state. If th...

The Dumbing Down of Our True Nature (part two)

Image
Since we need to address some of the concerns regarding the subject of the innate view most often reserved for scholars I have asked some of my students to comment. Below are some of their answers. Perhaps you agree, disagree, or have not given it much thought, which is probably where they are in their reasoning. Following that are some very short passages regarding the correct Buddhist intellectually held view that is the reason the students are complaining. After that, I will present another model for understanding the view, although I am personally quite fond of the classic view presentation. Student: “ What I hear Rinpoche saying is that the argument is valid, but the analogy or language, the description that is used here, does not really resonate with us. I am saying that we do not think about things as wood and fire and water. We think about things as bones and blood or atoms and quarks. ” Student: “ We do believe that we are here as entities. We do believe it all the ti...
