Experiencing incomprehensible feelings of spiritual eagerness while meditating is a sign that veils between your gross mind and your subconscious, or inner more subtle minds, are beginning to thin. From that experience can arise a new kind  of you that doesn’t have to explain why you feel joyful. You will steadily become more open, and more capable; this is an inner shift of your essence to refuge as faith. Creativity has a source, activity, and audience. This is valid for all creative acts, whether they are beneficial or even harmful. Source could be wisdom, ego or controlled by another. Activity could be spiritual, mental or manifest in the world. In Tibet, almost all art is sacred art, done to exacting specifications and proportions that must be followed. Pure reproduction is applauded, originality is discouraged. Now I have new ways of perceiving art. These are my personal views. Art is fashion. That is true whether the fashion is "reflects me" or is reproducing beautiful scenery. Because everything we experience is only based on perceptions within an illusory realm, beings are blown this way and that by society permissions and whimsies. Our perceptions become trained by experiences that further solidify attitudes and perceptions, capturing us perfectly to samsara. Perhaps most art is fashion, a shallow display of what culture trains us to be and to see. Art is inspiration. That is true when wisdom holds the senses of the observer to transmit valuable understanding. Our actual needs and true talents are often inappropriately tied to a mythical process by which we are going to gloriously turn out to be the unknown person we are attempting to become. It is a quest, like Lord of the Rings for a mystical attainment of transformation that we can only hope has good motivation. On the other hand, we could be harboring destructive or counter productive demands of exactly how we are going to achieve a state that may not be the most healthy strategies, isn't that so? For some people, the only way to become the person they envision must also be done with extreme creativity. It had to have a fluid changing quality so that each time a decision solidified of who they were, it had to be something brand new. I believe the spirit of enlightenment, the yearning to awaken this great aspiration, is like calling the muse. Great artists and great creative people might cultivate a mind capable of drawing the creative spirit close to them. I understand it used to be personified as the Athenial spirit of creativity. I didn’t know about muses before, but it certainly sounds like the dakinis doesn’t it? What we Tibetans would call the dakini might be called the muse in other cultures. An artist or poet might sit with their pen raised in the air while praying or entice the muse to arrive in order for them to be able to put their pen to paper and cause their work to become extraordinary. The powerful creative energy of the muse is the same as the creative energy of the higher tantric practices.
