Sadness and Healing

Untangling Unhappy Thinking Most thoughts are expressions of one form of logic or another: emotional, reasoning, intuitive or reactive logic. Each style of logic will lead to a further specific state of mind that is an extension of the just previous thought. Without deliberate effort, all thoughts revolve around the general parameters of the logical (illogical/justification/ logical) programming s till running in the mind. It is possible to switch patterns to have more choices of what to think next. It is wise to choose the next thought that best reflects what we wish to experience.

Unbeing and Making your Bed

Student: Rinpoche, how would you describe formless realm beings? Rinpoche: Although they do not have manifest bodies, they still are alive. S: How do they expiate their karma? R: They cannot while in that realm. That’s a problem. S: Do they have perceptions? R: They have no perceptions. The formless realm is not that easy for you as a human being to understand because all of your experiences are through body and mind; it is hard to understand being without them. S: It feels like a stasis, though. R: It is stasis. That’s right.

Bullying and Prayer to the Buddha

In the old days, enemies were not anonymous. Without telephones, they had to come in front of your face to hurt you. Now, people with aggressive tendencies are free to do harm as if it were a sport, with no consequences and no feelings of being caught. With that freedom to anonymously do damage… it’s surprising how many will rise to that opportunity.  It is valuable to become more skillful in p atient endurance while dealing with people who create harm and problems. It would also be irresponsible to simply endure when there is something that you can do to help people stop doing that. We should be careful however to understand that a chaotic situation does not require praying to the Buddha to inflict harm to the enemy. In any case, it is our responsibility to deal with our own set of problems in life as they arise without damaging our own mind; this is the Buddhist practice. ~ Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~~~ “In alten Zeiten blieben Feinde nicht anonym. Ohne Telefon mussten sie direkt ...

Peaceful and Happy?

Buddha Shakyamuni was accomplished at becoming enlightened. I don’t know how many times he became enlightened in this world sphere, probably hundreds of times. However, the Bodhisattva who is doing it for the first time will achieve a specific form of enlightenment but the practice of becoming enlightened should happens over and over again in order to become truly accomplished enough to benefit  many living beings. The energetic resonance of the awakening experience is powerfully valuable for myriad beings. One can even become enlightened, really enlightened, more than once in a single lifetime. Of course, that takes a bit more skill. It also requires unusual circumstances to be able to forget enough to become enlightened again. Anyway, don’t worry about that. Student: On purpose though? Rinpoche: On purpose. Yes.

Keep returning to high altruistic motivation if the mind drifts during meditation. The remembrance of high motivation is better than forcing the mind to memorize the parts of a virtuous object. Only one in a million meditators is competent to gently gather the mind back to that type of concentration when it has strayed. In my opinion, concentration will come naturally when the obstacles to concent ration are gone. Begin by thinking about how wonderful it would be if all living beings were happy.
