What the Young Rinpoches Were Told and other Buddhist musings

To the perceiver, the world is present only when his or her attention is placed on it. However, it is only reasonable to see that the death of a single person does not make the world disappear. Therefor, there is no "core" individual that upholds the world for others. It is an enduring illusion. The world indeed lives beyond the perceiver. ~ Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~~~~~

- Domo Geshe Rinpoche ---

excerpt Mystery of Emptiness & Love - Science is now maturing enough to be able to describe what authentic

sources have been experiencing on the interior and describing for thousands of years. Both now agree that the way the world appears is not how it actually exists. Both now state that it is highly improbable that it exists at all, other than in a state of potentiality. In Buddhism, we call this potentiality perception and call this realm and other realms discrete perceptual realms.

What science is not yet sure enough about is the interface between consciousness and its descriptions of physical potentiality at this point. As Buddhists, we are “holding space” and good wishes for those measurements to be done to their satisfaction as soon as possible."

Our education as young rinpoches was based on gaining knowledge and experience because we had to take on great responsibilities soon. We felt the need to do well because of that and made maximum effort.

On the other hand, it was assumed that laypeople could not do so much but to try as much as they could. We actually did not think they could do much beyond preparing for a more conducive rebirth.

I now think this attitude is one sided and holds people back. Everyone practicing the Mahayana path of developing bodhichitta to evolve into a bodhisattva needs to hold the attitude of gaining as much knowledge and experience as possible because each one will need to take on great responsibilities as soon as she/he and you are capable. Buddhism is not a feel good babysitting service, we are a bodhisattva training school! ~ Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~~~~

- Domo Geshe Rinpoche ---
