Courting Karma

Image
When making sincere spiritual effort, gradually we will discover who we are not. That way it will not be such a shock to know that we have been trapped by unhealthy fantasy. Through mind training practice and introspection we will also gradually feel empowered by knowledge of reality and not care so much about superficial identity. - Domo Geshe Rinpoche --- A wisdom being holds a more vast matrix with sincerity and a spirit of goodwill. It is not enough to have wisdom; sharing it heals, purifies and lifts confusion. Th...

Don't Make Your Inner Being Crazy!

We can change our karma in three ways: mental effort, restraining reactions to negative events and by inspiring our minds to higher standards.  Mental effort is done by sheer discipline taking the right actions by knowing right from wrong. This is the most difficult method because of habit or an environment that wrongly stimulates us to poor ways that continue to lead us to suffering as the result . Restraining reactivity gives space to think before blaming others for difficulties before we know all the facts. This is the next most difficult method but, with practice we can train ourselves to not jump to conclusions. The actual karmic consequences occur here… the junction between the exhaustion of the created karma and the energetic activation of its next form due to our response… or its dissolution of power to continue. The easiest way to change our karma is to inspire ourselves by reading the lives of the great sages. We can also read and contemplate the dharma teachings of t...

Who We Think We Are

Image
Everyone takes great care of their personal wall that holds us apart from others; this is the projected persona. It is human nature to desire recognition as separate from others by having a unique set of appearances; it is an important part of who we are. There is no basic difference between a back to nature person living in the woods, and another person making an entrance to an opera dressed in  furs and makeup. Each has a cultivated persona commensurate with their personal standards and how they judge others. Some live in a place of superficial fashion, with changing fashions as criteria for relating to the world. Although we might think that a rough and tough woodsman is someone very different, each lives by strict standards and according to their self-image, that is how they judge others. The dainty lady might advise, “Well, if you just put on a little bit of makeup, a bit of lipstick, you would look so pretty.” The other might say, “If you don’t kill your own food, you’re no ...

Buddha's Worldview

Image
Many seekers know that whatever is good, happy and joyful in their life is an affirmation of their good karma and spiritual worth. However, from a Buddhist point of view it is also seen as an open door into the feel good craving of worldly spirituality. For some who have embraced Buddhism as a path, their Buddhism is on the other side of their life trying to be honest about their shortcomings so t hat the dharma can fix their problems. This is the dilemma of those in preparation for awakening…. still attracted to the pleasant, and attracted to what brings them happiness. Now we must use honesty in a new way and establish a fresh connection between our Buddhism and our worldly version of spirituality. I am not speaking to the choir here; I am speaking about suffering, because perhaps at this point in the spiritual career of most, they are not prepared to give up craving for the pleasant. True? I have to laugh because even Buddhist spirituality can be worldly. Possessing a new thangka...

Timeless Enlightenment and Dark Matter

Image
In a strict sense, all phenomena are empty of inherent existence, even those that cannot be directly observed because of subtle causes and conditions. The controversy whether space is permanent or not is even debated as fine points of cosmology between Buddhist traditions. Dark matter is an aspect of space. If it has function, it is pure or clarity illusory as well as also being empty of inherent  existence. On the other hand, the contamination that brings rise to phenomena is simply the aggregation of confused and misaligned energies without producing a valid and stable function. I personally cannot accept dark matter as a theoretical fantasy, because it has a reactive existence by default. Unexplained energy is there where we cannot see it with today’s instruments... but tomorrow... ~ Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~~~ "In einem strengen Sinn sind alle Phänomene leer von inhärenter Existenz, selbst jene, die durch subtile Ursachen und Bedinungen nicht direkt beobachtet werden können.
