Death, Altruism and other Buddhist musings....

Image
It is a very different experience on a "soul" or interior life level when we behave altruistically without being concerned whether we benefit or not. Domo Geshe Rinpoche -- When we are young, the deaths of others rarely are noticed. However, as we grow older, the deaths of people that we know personally or those who were like eternal gods of music and art during our youth becomes a common occurrence. Of course, the passing of those to whom we had an intimate connection will require more healing and time to adjust to their loss in our lives. In a...

Safe Places

Image
Telepathy on a continuous basis is only useful when the mind is pure. First clean up the thinker, then the thinking is careful enough to communicate mind to mind. Those in the human realm are characterized by an incapacity to control their minds but still need a safe place to grow and learn. Eventually, people will be able to control their own minds by becoming clear of the many forms of distortio n that plague human beings. It is not the fault of samsara, folks!

Too Much Grief?. on Anger, and other Buddhist musings....

Most folks believe in the truths of mathematical or scientific subjects, but think that spirituality is just wishful thinking without proof. They also probably wouldn’t know the difference between the enlightened or unenlightened because th ey don’t know the criteria associated with awakened mind. Moving from the suffering state through the awakening process, one encounters another system that discerns qualities according to standards from the viewpoint of awakened consciousness. The ones that can define this are those who have already achieved at least several levels of awakening; their inner senses are alive to subtle data. There is specific terminology and quality control; I suppose you could call it a certified awakening.

Buddhism....but not slavishly so...

Image
The innate confused and unenlightened view that perceives what is impermanent to be permanent, also induces the experience of otherness. With effort, serious meditators can cause themselves to feel authentic oneness, where there is no dist inction between themselves and others. However, in a skillful step-by-step process of preparation for awakening, this feeling should not arrive prematurely. The great lesson of how to get along with others can become muddled by dogmatically pushing to see how we are all the same. Other versions: we come all from one consciousness, or everyone is me and I am everyone. To parrot these oneness philosophies, (common spiritual discussion ideas) without actually healing or correcting behaviors will not affect our personal truth place. In other words, although we may have abundant problems to repair in our relationships with others, instead many overlook the harm that we have caused others by affirming that there actually was no problem because we are...

Is it OK for a Meditator to Say They are Dead Tired?

Image
Some word choices might become alerting factors to drag you toward the end of your life prematurely. When extremely tired, some will say that they are dead tired, or in the throes of desire for a new object, others will say, “Oh, it’s just to die for.” You might declare later, “Well I wasn’t really serious, it’s just a joke”. However, a serious meditator must be aware that there is a special method used by higher developed practitioners and bodhisattvas to be able to voluntarily die. The enlightened bodhisattvas act within higher functioning parameters by viewing their life as a place to work and continue interior development. The power of practice, the power of mantra recitation, and the power of altruism give trusted practitioners special permissions and entry into other states of mind, and at some point, permission to skillfully depart. Even before attaining enlightenment, meditators will discover that their words have power. That is also the beginning of higher d...

Subtle Karma + German Mystery of Emptiness & Love

Image
In Tibet we said that cleaning the outside body so much is useless if we do not clean the inside... purifying the mind There is a defining moment, the end of awareness for the individual, called death. Very little remains after death ends the earthly existence, but the subtle result of karma goes on until it achieves proper transformation through another vehicle. The remaining physical body is lifeless, and without awareness; it is like a plant that returns to the earth element. However, the dynamic of the material recycling of plants or bodies that have been discarded actually has nothing to do with life itself! That remains the mystery of inner life, beyond body and even beyond non corporeal mental functions such as thinking.

A Prayer for Those on The Path and other subjects

Image
A Prayer for Those on the Path By the 9th Domo Geshe Rinpoche May all living beings, who are perfection itself and do not know it, find the best of paths and preparation for entry into that understanding. May all who prepare carefully toward that understanding make the great wish to be of profound benefit to all living beings. May all who aspire to be of benefit find the best of training. May all who find the training, finish and integrate it with profound wisdom without taking personal gain. May those accomplished beings, trained and ripe in wisdom, be allowed to work for the benefit of living beings. May living beings listen carefully. May all living beings, who are perfection itself and do not know it, find the best of paths and preparation for entry into that understanding.

Caring for Another at the End of Their Life

Image
Caring for another at end of their life has the potential for dramatic inner change in the care giver. There will be processes energetically exposed to the caregiver during that time that are not available to others in its companion process, gestation and birth. The dying person has mixed some of their personal energy ...with the energy of the world that is attempting to be withdrawn as well as dissolving the body/mind connections holding her or him in the human realm. Quietly and unobtrusively observing this return to original source allows the caregiver access to a special unspoken or inner training in understanding the cycle of life. Der sterbende Men...

Fear of Death is Worse Than Death!

Image
The fear of death is far worse than death itself! Whoever is afraid to die, continuously lives with fear in manifest or subtle suffering. Living with that frantic fear for their mortal safety, makes her or him tentative in life and unable to grasp the great benefits of human life! It overwhelms a correct understanding of safety built into the human inner programming, thereby making life unlivable. Relax into the Buddhist training to help you overcome fear of death by understanding the certainty that you will die, and it is uncertain when that will be. It is not courage we need to steel ourselves for the inevitable facing of death, but the anticipation of joy that we will experience when we are released from fear... our actual enemy!

2012: The Buddhist View of the End of the World

Image
If the world is going to end soon-- work diligently toward awakening during the remaining time. If the world is not going to end soon-- work diligently toward awakening in YOUR remaining time. Awakened mind transcends death, whenever and however it might come. Now don't worry... lots to do! -Domo Geshe Rinpoche---"

So little is known about end of life in the West. People are only now becoming aware that there are special processes and/or arrangements that need to be made for an individual at the end of life. The most important process at end of life is to realize that the individual who is in the process of passing away is energetically returning to their source. The individual is literally reabsorbed into his or her original being (which, by the way, has no gender). This process can go on for a significant amount of time before that individual passes away. And during that time that individual needs to have a very different kind of care, in order for that process to go smoothly. http://www.grandtransitions.org/

Is Death the Greatest Problem? (read in Eng,Ger,Portuguese)

Image
The great problem is not death. Death is the natural outcome of birth. The problem is birth. The greatest meditators work at avoiding their next birth, freeing themselves that will give them real choices! We should also be more careful about breeding animals, bringing more suffering into this world by encouraging the birth of animals only destined for our pleasure or consumption! Will there ever be a world where animals will not be induced, where cows, horses and other domesticated animals will live with us harmoniously?

The Perceptions of Someone in a Coma

Image
"Someone who is alive, but without outer perceptions, for example, in a coma, still maintains a perceptual link to this world. This is by means of their individual consciousness and interacting with not only their memories but possibly an interaction with the energy of this world that continues to feed their perceptions. This latter method produces a kind of dreamy aliveness that mixes ideas, memories, energetic aliveness of others and the world to interact, but not in such an alert way. When that perceptual web or dynamic is gone and the supporting physical structures such as brain functions and heart functions cannot sustain it, that person is said to die. In Buddhism, however, we take a larger view of the human life process, but not from the exclusive point of view of the physical being" ~ Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~~~ "Menschen die lebendig aber ohne äussere Wahrnehmung sind, wie z.B. D...

Making a Rainbow Body

Image
"At the end of life, it is important for a Buddhist who usually sits on their cushion to begin another kind of meditation. The inner mind that is the transmigrator, begins a process of withdrawing the life force from the individual that is redistilled in a technically sophisticated but natural manner back into it's original source, which is still an individual. In cultivated end of life Buddhist practices, this process needs to happen in an extremely quiet and energetically supportive environment so the entire life force goes back carefully. There are well documented cases where the end of life meditation done by great meditators might even result in the physical shrinkage of the physical body and in some cases, even the disappearance of the body. This is what is called the Rainbow Body dissolution" ~Domo Geshe Rinpoche~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ‎ "Am Lebensende ist es für Buddhisten, die normalerweise auf ihrem Kissen sitzen, wichtig, mit einer anderen Art von...

Planning for the Future (part three)

Image
So far, the discussion on planning for a successful life seems to be quite worldly without the important spiritual component for success. Unfortunately, there are many people raised with a more money and possession orientation than spirituality at its core, even though they might have a natural spirituality that needs to mature even further. This absence of spiritual inclusion in life plans actually creates a hunger that seems to further drive the need for the materialist view because there are few viable alternatives. The excessively sweet or illogical presentations of many religious and spiritual traditions might drive the intelligent person away. Buddhism has much to offer for those with a devotional nature, but does not insist that people conform to a model in order to benefit. In general, however, the logical and skillful changes modeled in Buddhism are useful and attractive to the thinking person. We can thank the early Buddhist Indian sages such as Nagarjuna, Chandrakirti, ...
