A Blast of Enlightenment and other Buddhist musings.....

Image
The awakening blessing is not like the gentle cascade of illuminating wisdom described in our meditation practice to be poured into our everyday mind that can be used for our spiritual growth. Of course, we want and need free time to meditate. We also want the Buddha to cause our lives to become suitably rearranged for more spiritual emphasis that is called leisure and endowment in Buddhist term inology. This is correct thinking and requesting. However, that will not be nearly enough leisure and endowment to cause the actual awakening. After a great deal of preparation, we must then sincerely make the request for a tremendous burst of illuminated power and energy, like a flash of lightning, to open the door to our enlightened true nature.

Buddhist Keys to Spiritual Success

Image
Many people seeking spiritual fulfillment eventually decide that what they really only wanted was to be comforted by spiritual truths. Any remaining anxiety of wishing to become enlightened then becomes the problem. The next step for them w ill require a respite of their spiritual urge. Those with this dilemma require a great deal of maintenance in order to hang onto a spiritual path to which they have made a genuine commitment. The way out of this dilemma is to appreciate the deeper commitment that is needed. A preliminary and superficial commitment to a path to make us feel a bit better will last only a short time; we will need to settle into the path in order to begin work for real change that will bring real comfort and happiness.

Tulku Rinpoche, Family and Individuality and other musings....

Image
Tulku means reborn or reincarnated one of a previous lama of a specific inner and outer lineage. There are four main methods that create Rinpoches. Some Rinpoches today are not tulkus but are blessed into the memories of a previous lama by  a realized lama that knew the previous one. This is not an authentic tulku arisal but is still quite unusual these days. There are those who are given a special mind transmission of another lama and then told they are such and such a name but there is actually not any connection between the child and the previous. This is also not a tulku. There are others who are little more than strategic political appointees. Perhaps the parents are wealthy and can support the monastery or are wishing to have status as parents of a Rinpoche. There are many political type appointees. An authentic arisal comes from interior lineage of a particular lama, from the actual abode of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas connected to that previous. These tulkus can aris...

Worldview, Buddhist Retreat Center, Lucky Life and other musings...

The worldview of an individual must be seamless. A damaged worldview is a sign of mental illness... when things don't make sense anymore and the individual doesn't have the inner resources to fix it to make it make sense.  The worldview of  an enlightened being is not broken... it has become transformed due to closure of subtle stress in the deep vital mind. The process must be done slowly and skillfully so that one does not damage the worldview without another better one cultivated and nearly in place. This is the long term value of steady daily meditation; a gradual healing of confusion that has wrongly cemented a false worldview in place instead of an aligned worldview with reality. This is dharma!

Newtonian Worldview, Holographic Universe, Amoral, Buddhist Podcast, and other Buddhist musings

Image
Dramatic new worldviews and scientific theories are coming faster and faster. While a perceptual barrier was broken with the first person to break the four-minute mile, Einstein made it possible for science to think outside the Newtonian wo rldview, making those scientific advances possible. However, most people in the West are still deeply influenced with a mechanistic worldview and sadly, this also means that it’s not easy to discuss the nature of compassion and deeper transformative practices unless there is openness to a vaster worldview. A Newtonian worldview combined with Tibetan Buddhism will cause some to become overly fascinated with a solidified tantric view… making it no more than another worldly foray into magic. Learning about and practicing compassion will circumvent dangerous potential problems of ego and aggressiveness that are widespread in dharma practice. ~ Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~~~ (tying blessing cords) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ “Dramatische neue Sichtweisen der Welt und ...
