Buddhist Ideals and Equanimity

Image
How skillful the Buddha was to not overwhelm sincere seekers with too much unrelated information. The actual problem is the innate view of perceiving what is not real to be real and inhibits the capacity to understand higher teachings that come after awakening. We must quickly evolve to become capable of receiving those teachings in the future because the Buddha has already done everything in his  power to entice us to evolve!

This week's teaching podcast is titled Cultivating Courage in Times of Change. With today’s economic uncertainty, we need an enduring set of values to give us strength and courage. Over 2,500 years ago, the Buddha taught relevant values that freed people from fear and unhappiness. These same teachings can help us overcome the problems of today. Rinpoche will offer us a fresh perspective about this. Cultivating Courage by DG Rinpoche

The Excellent Antidote to Fear

Image
Buddhist refuge acts as an antidote to fear embedded in the mind, which makes it unsuitable for experiencing joy and higher thinking. It also conquers traces of fear left in the body in the form of a damaged and over-reactive limbic system. Within the dharma is information we need about reality and how to change. Refuge in the dharma must contain important knowledge that offers us more safety than continuing to rely on our fear to keep us out of danger. Dharma is the second object of refuge, (the Buddha and Sangha are the others). They are the teachings of the Buddha on the path to liberation. It is the actual refuge, because it allows us to exercise our own free will to change by incorporating powerful new perceptions making us strong, courageous, and even beautiful by holding refuge vows!~Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~~~~ "Die buddhistische Zufluchtnahme fungiert als ein Gegenmittel für die Angst die im Geist verankert ist und ihn außerstande setzt, Freude und höheres Denken zu erleben....

Courage is not the Antidote to Fear

Image
Courage is not the antidote to fear and will result in aggression rather than a desired quality of alert endurance. A therapy of experiencing deliberate comfort and simplifying is needed. If we seek comfort without simplifying, stress increases by the need to protect our position and possessions. If we seek simplifying ... without comfort, it will increase fear. We need long term healing of fear and other disturbing feelings in transformative Buddhist practice.

Leaving Fear Behind

Image
Overcoming fear heals and returns us to psychological wellness so that we can lead a happy life, but it is not easy to begin. Some people, who have been living in self-imposed fear, are quite old before they discover they have been living life “small.” Others will continue to suffer, denying that it is personal fear that has held them away from happiness,  believing instead that their anxiety is caused by a lack of appreciation from others. Others will try to heal by seeing their fear as a psychological wound, but this causes them to become unable to trust.  When we are experiencing fear, we can become shaken by nearly anything: relationship difficulties, money problems, aging, concern about the possibility of dying, or deeper existential dilemmas such as fear of falling to even more suffering states in future lives. Buddhist refuge acts as an antidote to overcome fear embedded in the mind, which is making it unsuitable for experiencing joy and higher thinkin...

Thought for Tuesday on cultivated emotions (read in Eng,Sp,Fr,Ger,It)

Image
The structure for a balanced outlook is complex. We can be shaken from our balance, the place where we experience our present state of happiness and peace. Regularly, inner and outer events shake us in that inner contented place, including the blessing of natural and organic evolutionary awakening. In an even deeper place, everyone who is not awakened to reality is spontaneously using a base illogical view that continuously produces suffering. This is a programming contrary to the peace we wish to experience that influences perceptions of how living beings are alive. From that, extends many other wrong perceptions; inner logical consequences of the set parameters. In Buddhism, we call this fundamental illogic the innate view. That is why waking to the enlightened state in that deep place creates such tremendous change. Programming of the innate inner view is gone, and the infusion of the illogical view dream state with all of its perceptual ramifications are destroyed. Until that awake...

"Bodhisattva perception of healthy contact with others is like a dream. Because it is dreamlike in its actual form in comparison to higher reality, Bodhisattvas cultivate the correct view of others as dear without fear. For ordinary practitioners, at the level of being which is here to learn and be healed in order to become transformed, we must have genuine relationships with others that is not based on buying and selling of favors such as mutual immature love. Without fear from our side, others do not even have to be nice people for us to have this healthy contact. They are dear because they are experiencing suffering that are the consequences of actions which they have performed or are performing, and they are dear to us because they are hurting themselves unnecessarily" ~Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~~~ "La percepción Bodhisattva de contacto saludable con los demás es como un sueño. Debido a que es un sueño en su forma actual en comparación con la realidad superior, Bodhisattv...

How to Become Who You Want to Be (last and part seven)

Image
There are methods to help us make important perceptual changes so that we can achieve our natural potential without unwanted influences harming or impeding our progress. Even those who are clear already, without harmful obstacles, still need to make effort to understand the changes they are already experiencing. · One valuable perception we can cultivate right now is giving ourselves permission to change. A friend said recently they felt doomed to failure because their lack of confidence is combined with not feeling as if they deserved the positive changes. Perhaps someone suffering from confidence paralysis could jump away from that position by using positive affirmations that have worked for others such as: "I am good enough to be the best me possible, in fact, I was born to be me! I hereby give myself authorization to change.” “Change is happening already. I know that because I have changed my mind a dozen times just today! By giving myself formal permission to c...

Recipe for Enlightenment (Part four)

Image
The Tibetan tradition is quite powerful and has trained countless practitioners how to become respectful enough to receive the extraordinary blessings that are features of the Vajrayana path to enlightenment. It is reported often that even those in training to become teachers and come from long and famous reincarnation lineages experience some anxiety when in the presence of their own teacher. I also in my before had this experience, when I was in my study time, with my knees shaking, and my heart pounding in the presence of my guru. Others have also said this, sometimes they cannot even speak. Sometimes, we felt like we wanted to run away but we did not! This actually is what happens when the lama is showing them reality from the inside and their inner mind is receiving guidance. This is not baby Buddhism, we are not talking about baby food nutrition in this recipe for enlightenment! I have talked occasionally to students who have experienced something strong coming from inside...

Recipe for Enlightenment (part three)

We continue the discussion on cogitation meditation from yesterday. This meditation technique and energetic is like an enfoldment or unfolding of thinking. Rather than looking, thinking, adding more ideas to the thought, you are waiting in encouragement while this enfoldment is drawing forth elements that need to be viewed and understood. This ability only comes with steady practice so not much more needs to be said about this for now. The cogitation meditation results are gathered into realizations. These minor breakthroughs are characterized by the arisal of a new state of mind or new thought patterns. These minor breakthroughs and new states of mind could also be attained by removal of a difficult state of mind or difficult dynamic. With that removal, a careful ingredient that was previously hidden from the meditator becomes exposed. Something you might have already developed in a previous time; this life or another life was hidden by another dynamic. For example, this becom...

The Scary Root Chakra

Image
In a spiritual environment just about the last thing we want to discuss is the root center/chakra. We are willing to talk about anything above the belt and not, not, not dirty associations we have with the “lower energies”. So, let’s think about root center dynamics. Many negative root center-stimulating factors exist in other plexes stimulation also. However, they come alive most strongly in the root. Fear is felt in the root plexus or inner/outer nerve bundle as an attack that arises survival instinct. Now a days there is so little actual danger in comparison to danger of war, or wild animal attack that this can be trained to respond to attacks on reputation or disrespect as survival fear. Negativity stimulates root chakra activity in an unhealthy way. As that energy increases, it interacts with existing energy and begins to “talk to itself” in the root center. Fear further adds juice to that. Bad news on television might stimulate it. Judging others negatively and assigning negative...
