Buddhist musings on Peace and Kindness....

Image
Defeat samsara. Rebuild peace faster than it is breaking up. - DGR -- The root, branch and flower of an mature spiritual person is unquenchable kindness. ~ Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~ "Wurzel, Geäst und Blüte eines spirituellen Menschen bestehen aus unstillbarer Güte." - DGR -- Remain in your majority for as long as possible. When you were a child you could not make your own decisions and were told what to do. It will be the same when you are old, others will tell you what to do, where to sit and what to eat. There are precious few years when you will be self directed.... use them wisely ~ Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~ "Bleibe so lange wie möglich mündig.

Promises, Practice and Podcasts: A Buddhist Buffet

Image
Free Podcast! (The search for Truth- What is possible?) Domo Geshe Rinpoche leads a discussion on the criteria we use to determine truth vs non-truth. Each individual has explicit or implicit criteria. If you do not understand the criteria you use, your search for truth will be hampered. This discussion is preliminary to discussing, "What is enlightenment?" http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/domo-geshe-rinpoche-teachings/id387058479 The four great wishes of all Tibetan Buddhist practices are really a holding space type of promise and an emerging holy bond with all living beings. These wishes are profound promises because they are made with a special state of mind called bodhicitta motivation. When I first came to America back in the early 70’s, (when I was still Tibetan), my American students would ask me dharma questions but I often felt their motivation in the discussions begin to focus more on “me and mine, or this is so bad”. While they were getting d...

Genuine Peace and Logic

Image
The teachings of ultimate truth are arrived at by using relative prodding. We will need correct skills in logic and self honesty to have wisdom teachings come alive within. When transformation occurs - relative skills will still remain intact for the benefit of others. That is what the Buddha did: delineate the boundaries of the path to arrive at the ultimate resource of wisdom. - Domo Geshe Rinpoche --- Become centered, then stabilize. Wash, rinse well, then repeat until awaken...

War and Failed Relationships

Image
Do not practice war... nor the precursors of war! Do not practice anger.... nor the precursors of anger! do not practice irritation.... nor the precursors of irritation! Instead Practice peace.. and its cause: contentment Practice loving kindness.. and its cause: equanimity Practice joy... and its cause: compassion ~Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~~~ Today is first day of Yogic Healing training here at Joyful Path Meditation and Healing Center. Course runs for more than one year. Healers training from the inside out and the outside in! Because of our own pain in failed relationships, real empathy is possible to arise. As "experts" in the suffering of heartbreak and damaged relationships, we can relate to the suffering of others in their time of difficulty with others. However, this can only occur when we break free from watching our own suffering. This empathic comp assion sees that everyone is suffering at least as much as I am, and perhaps more! This form of compassion destroys...

Peace is Not a Valid Goal

Image
Peace is not a valid goal to work toward, we must work instead on obstacles preventing it from arising spontaneously within the mind! Peace is the experience of equanimity that comes from closure; the end of conflict. In a deeper sense, peace is the end of confusion between how we exist and how we think we exist. - Domo Geshe Rinpoche ---"

Justification for War

Image
The justification for war is the same as the justification for peace: to end suffering. -DGR---"

Real Peace Might Surprise You!

Image
T he many benefits we desire to possess that are enlightened qualities of the Buddhas and bodhisattvas such as peace, wisdom, and compassion are not gained gradually! Vast qualities are the results of the entry into the awakened state and not the practice of Buddhism or any other religion. Therefore, we cannot actually practice peace, wisdom, or compassion but we can practice what will cause them to arise!  Enlightened peace is the result of closure to the lower realms such as the human realm is by comparison to higher being. Enlightened wisdom is skillful use of exalted common sense, and enlightened compassion acts without an object that is forced, out of confusion, to appear to the inner mind. However, the preparation for awakening will produce some signs of accomplishment that come and go due to an unstable mind. The challenge is to stabilize realizations without solidifying them into a “really real” because they are elements of a greater awakening. A good sign that peace will...

Making Peace with the Outgoing Year

Image
"I wish to make peace with this last year and not blame time for any difficulties that I may have experienced while in its grasp. I release it in my mind to join all the other past years in rest. In that way, may my grasping not find an object to punish. No aging regrets, no guilt for what remains undone and no desire to remain in the old year. Eyes straight ahead... fresh, a new chance... I promise this before the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas!"

Learning Peace

Image
"Peace is not aggressive and not easy to define. Therefore, the method is to learn what produces peace rather than acquiring peace or mandating peace. As one begins a course of transformative study there are hundreds of deep questions that are in nature, energetic explosive requests for closure to confusion. The inner unskillful logic in energetic form needs to be resolved by new strategies. Questioning, meditating and inquiry are its outer forms, faith in the value of the goal, becoming receptive to inner guidance, and courage to let go of old habits are the inner forms" ~Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~~~ "Frieden ist nicht aggressiv und nicht leicht zu definieren.

Touching Peace

Image
Rainbow Hawk and Wind Eagle, my dear friends have requested me to share some insights from my tradition, Tibetan Buddhism. However, when I think of that I remember that Buddhism did not begin in Tibet but in India. And the Buddha was not Buddhist but Hindu. Further, Hinduism is and was a gathering of compartmentalized deity practices brought together in a method to live in non-competitive harmony. They in turn were influenced by Egyptian mystical tradition and we might arrive at religions of Atlantis, Lemuria or the earth as living and evolving organism or even other civilized cultures beyond the cover of our sky. Like a spiral that winds inside and outside touching everything I imagine Buddhism energetically touching us here and now as it gracefully flows through Tibet, China, Japan and many other countries touching and inviting myriad beings to higher development. This is the living force that is only one expression of the Eternal Religion that calls every living being to perfection. ...
