A Blast of Enlightenment and other Buddhist musings.....

Image
The awakening blessing is not like the gentle cascade of illuminating wisdom described in our meditation practice to be poured into our everyday mind that can be used for our spiritual growth. Of course, we want and need free time to meditate. We also want the Buddha to cause our lives to become suitably rearranged for more spiritual emphasis that is called leisure and endowment in Buddhist term inology. This is correct thinking and requesting. However, that will not be nearly enough leisure and endowment to cause the actual awakening. After a great deal of preparation, we must then sincerely make the request for a tremendous burst of illuminated power and energy, like a flash of lightning, to open the door to our enlightened true nature.

Buddhist musings... and meanderings

Image
Like other litigious societies, we have become over-doctored and looking for that magic pill to make us well and feel satisfied. Perhaps it would be better to consider stress, lack of closure to poor past relationships, anger or jealousy as causes for our poor health... and then correct our errors. - Domo Geshe Rinpoche --- Sharing happiness is actually what is done in the dharma practice of the first of the Four Great Wishes. This trains us to share our cultivated joy and not simply hold it as a personal possession. The second of the Great Wishes strong...

Death, Altruism and other Buddhist musings....

Image
It is a very different experience on a "soul" or interior life level when we behave altruistically without being concerned whether we benefit or not. Domo Geshe Rinpoche -- When we are young, the deaths of others rarely are noticed. However, as we grow older, the deaths of people that we know personally or those who were like eternal gods of music and art during our youth becomes a common occurrence. Of course, the passing of those to whom we had an intimate connection will require more healing and time to adjust to their loss in our lives. In a...

Politics, Logic and other Buddhist musings....

Explaining reality without direct cognition is like a bunch of unqualified presidential candidates expounding on international relations. - Domo Geshe Rinpoche --- Keep going because the benefits still outweigh the challenges. **** "Mach weiter, denn die Früchte deiner Bemühungen übersteigen noch immer die Herausforderungen" - DGR --- Correct meditation places your consciousness behind the veil of the discursive everyday use of your mind. Practicing relaxation before meditation, such as pranayama breath, will soften the chatter so consciousness can partially slide into a more steady parallel environment. ~ Domo Geshe Rinpoche * "Wenn Du korrekt meditierst, gelangt Dein Bewusstsein hinter den Schleier des umherschweifenden alltägliche...

Message to Disappointed Bodhisattvas and other Buddhist musings...

Image
This is a message to all disappointed bodhisattvas to encourage those who are working for the benefit of all living beings. Remember that life is a continuous process of self honesty in order to mature correct self-awareness without falling into the seduction of wanting to become more powerful. Proper identity self-awareness is actually power itself. Why? Because nothing can harm you. There is  no safer position than holding no position at all. There is no safer agenda than holding no personal agenda at all. This is the real work and challenge within advanced practices of higher level Bodhisattvas.

How to Become Enlightened Quickly .... and other Buddhist musings

Image
A number of years ago, I was approached by a fellow who said to me " Tell me one thing that I can do to become enlightened as I don't have time to study all of the scriptures and meditate." "Certainly", I responded. "At the end of this lifetime, do not be reborn. Do you think that you can do that?" "I don't think so", he answered. "Then you better study and meditate" ~ Domo Geshe Rinpoche "Vor einigen Jahren trat ein Mann mit der folgenden Aussage an mich heran: 'Bitte nenn mir ein Ding, das ich tun kann, um erleuchtet zu werden, denn ich habe nicht die Zeit, um alle Schriften zu studieren und zu meditieren.' 'Klar doch', sagte ich. 'Werde am Ende dieses Lebens nicht wiedergeboren. Meinst du, du kannst das schaffen?' 'Ich glaube nicht', antwortete er. 'Dann solltest du lieber studieren und meditieren.' - Domo Geshe Rinpoche --- taken at the end of summer retreat 2015.....

Dreams and other Buddhist musings

Image
Ordinary dreams are usually the reflections of daytime nonsense or the result of unresolved stress. For serious meditators, however, dreams could become nighttime activities such as inner training, strongly feeling that he or she has been attending dharma teachings or even performing acts of compassion ~Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~~~ "Gewöhnliche Träume spiegeln normalerweise Unsinn aus dem Tagesgeschehen wider oder sind das Ergebnis von unbewältigtem Stress. Für ernsthaft Übende können Träume jedoch zu nächtlichen Aktivitäten werden, wie zu innerem Training, zu dem Gefühl, an Dharmaunterweisungen teilgenommen oder sogar mitfühlende Handlungen ausgeübt zu haben." - Domo Geshe Rinpoche --- Satisfaction in the Buddhist approach is a continuous mental nourishment not dependant upon desires being met in order to be happy in one’s self "Mit buddhistischer Herangehensweise ist Befriedigung eine stetige geistige Nahrung, bei der es nicht davon abhängt, dass Wün...

Thanksgiving is a celebration of gratitude

Image
Thanksgiving is actually a celebration of gratitude and on the other hand, thankfulness cannot be experienced apart from attachment toward an object.Gratitude does not require a connection to an external person or thing to be experienced.  Because thankfulness is directed toward a living being, it is not possible, for example, to be thankful toward a meal or toward abundance. However, there are many people and beings that we can and should be sincerely thankful to, for what they have provided for us that we could not have done on our own. ~ Domo Geshe Rinpoche ***** When we notice our mental errors and correct them the best way we can, our intention is to completely remove the delusions that generate poor attitudes and not just reduce them a bit to get a bit more peace. However, in practical application, we might begin by for example, reducing our anger bit by bit by deliberately pointing it out to ourselves. ‘This is anger showing itself. I recognize i  I...
