The Song of the Great Path

Image
Like a song that is forever singing beginning to end and end to beginning simultaneously, the Great Path that stimulates awakening exists simultaneously but in time and space becomes linear.~ Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~~ ***** "Wie ein Lied, das auf ewig von Anfang bis Ende und gleichzeitig von Ende bis Anfang erklingt, existiert der Große Pfad, welcher zum Erwachen anregt, auf simultane Weise; jedoch wird er linear durch Zeit und Raum.! - Domo Geshe Rinpoche --- We experience weather in a purely perceptual way as well as knowing that our body senses are influenced by the changing outer environment. However, the physical senses expect that temperature, barometric pressure, sunlight etc will remain fairly constant or they will send alerting signals. "Hot, hot, hot" means, take action now to cool off. This signal is not activated by temperature, only the cha nge in temperature; 60 degrees in June feels cold but 60 degrees in January might feel hot! For many folks, when th...

Story of a boy arriving alone to a remote monastery and other Buddhist musings

Image
A boy arrives alone to a remote monastery, sent by his aunt and uncle who can no longer care for him. Shamefaced, he is brought to the abbot. "Why do you look so unhappy?" "No one wants me, my parents died and my relatives feel that I am a burden to them. I have no value in this world!"  The abbot answered from deep wisdom, "I can see that your karma is close to being exhausted for family life, my  boy. Your karma has caused it to fall away. No matter how much you try to grasp at worldly satisfaction, instead your karma for non-attainment of desire has increased.  Now do not suffer, but rejoice! The Buddha has said 'come' to you."

Thanksgiving Overload and other Buddhist Musings

Image
Some folks really push on their senses, for example, by eating a huge Thanksgiving dinner until he or she feels absolutely sick. And yet, something inside them still is hungry. The craving for “Thanksgiving dinner” doesn't go away but remains unfulfilled. It is an inner hunger that needs to be fed and meditation is one of the best methods for inner nutrition and inner health. - Domo Geshe Rinpoche --- “By carefully following all of the teachings my most holy Gurus have imparted to me concerning the mea...

Thanksgiving is a celebration of gratitude

Image
Thanksgiving is actually a celebration of gratitude and on the other hand, thankfulness cannot be experienced apart from attachment toward an object.Gratitude does not require a connection to an external person or thing to be experienced.  Because thankfulness is directed toward a living being, it is not possible, for example, to be thankful toward a meal or toward abundance. However, there are many people and beings that we can and should be sincerely thankful to, for what they have provided for us that we could not have done on our own. ~ Domo Geshe Rinpoche ***** When we notice our mental errors and correct them the best way we can, our intention is to completely remove the delusions that generate poor attitudes and not just reduce them a bit to get a bit more peace. However, in practical application, we might begin by for example, reducing our anger bit by bit by deliberately pointing it out to ourselves. ‘This is anger showing itself. I recognize i  I...

When your karma is dharma, you are halfway home

Image
Our world is our present field of challenges that are preventing us from an organic and natural evolutionary development. This is also the place and time where, (if all goes well) we will at last discover how to truly get along with others, one of the great challenges of life. With“others” always with us in one way or another, uncovering barriers to real openness is a pathway to higher insight.  The closest that most folks get to creating strong connections with others is by thinking of them as “mine.” My family. My boyfriend. My girlfriend. This is my country. This can easily lead to racism or other extremist views that denigrate those that are “not mine”. On the other hand, many spiritual seekers try to avoid the danger of a personal ego trip with a semi-skillful use of “mine” to include others as belonging to them. However, the problem of ego still remains because we have now extended the reach of “me” into “mine.” ~ Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~~~ "Unsere Welt ist unser momentanes ...
