Ringing the Dharma Bell.....

There are only two important lessons, just two reasons that you and I came to this funny world: First, to deeply learn the true nature of compassion without the confusion of sentimentality or distress, and secondly to learn how to get along with others. If we’re not involved in either of these two important lessons, then we have actually failed to gain the benefit of having arrived into this worl d. However, when we make special effort to develop sincere thankfulness for the kindness of others, we genuinely interact with others even within a realm considered to be illusory.

Carnivals and Crystal Clarity

Image
One warm summer evening I chanced upon a tiny old carnival in the parking lot of our nearby grocery store. You know the kind? They have attractions such as a twenty-foot Ferris wheel with banged up creaky cars, little kiddy cars filled with excited children going round and round on a little track accompanied by the latest Latino music. Everything is in miniature; there’s a small inflatable slide  and little booths where you can throw baseballs to try to win a dusty stuffed bunny rabbit. Right at the center of the carnival is their main feature, the open sided trailer selling cotton candy and hot dogs. It reminds me of a meditator thinking about bodhichitta. Just imagine that you’re at the carnival… happy and just want to just squeeze the pink cotton candy because it’s also so sweet and fun. You have no responsibilities or worries. Just gathering energy and practically hugging yourself in this marvelous little carnival of your own making for arising the precious mind of enlight...

Freedom and Feeling Trapped

Miscommunication and confusion are the natural ways of samsaric living; there are gaps in talent within nearly all human beings because they’re not yet multidimensional. By existing in the human realm while separated from our actual form as a unique individual means that we don’t exist in our capacity for fullness. The life process is sparse by comparison to what it could be. When multidimensional  levels of consciousness open within the support of subtle mind and begin to wake up with sincere practice, the student has a new view of the world, themselves and the possibilities. However, before becoming awake, no one has enough life force to be able to contain a pure enlightened lifestyle.

Your Diamond Day

Image
Let us suppose that on the day you were born, you were presented with a bucket of perfect and rare diamonds. Even on that first day of your life, you extracted one of these perfect diamonds, but you did not know what it was. Not only did you not know its purpose, you were completely uninterested. All you wanted was mommy, milk, comfort, and care, and with no idea what this diamond meant, you fo rgot quickly where it went. The next day, you extracted another perfect diamond, and again, you did not know what it was for; perhaps it fell through your fingers. Each day, you were compelled to extract another diamond from your bucket of diamonds. In your youth, you extracted a diamond, and looking at it, you thought, 'this is boring and ordinary, and does not matter. There is an endless supply of diamonds,' and so you did not give it much importance because there were so many left in your bucket, and so you dropped it in the dust. Like this, your life went on. One day, you reached...
