Family Love, Education for Future Buddhists and other Buddhist musings....

While in community (spiritual, family or other kind), we naturally hold regard for them and the development of their maximum potential and so we want to act with loving-kindness. We try not to interfere but when we must, it should be done
with special loving kindness, and not harshly correcting or blaming. We make effort to develop our own communication skills by these interactions, and then we discover that our learning how to get along with others have beneficial repercussions for the energetic life of the whole community.

Remaining fresh is the challenge in a close-knit group. Living with others in community can be quite enjoyable when loving-kindness is present; there is a kind of a flow, whereas it is often thought that if everyone just follows the rules, then everything will be okay. Rather than that, it is more like surfing, feeling our way by sensing the flow of communication and needs of others while accomplishing group goals. The problem of just living by the rules is that, once settled into rote obedience of rules and strict behaviors, part of the mind goes to sleep and we act mechanically rather than being present and alert to others. When we are with others with non-harming kindness, we engage in a way that is interesting; we can even look forward to being with them because we want to play and learn. This is dharma put into practice in daily life! ~ Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I saw a video interview of nine-year-olds who were asked when were they first introduced to the computer. Most of them were around age two. Many children are growing up with the computer as their best friend and closest companion. In addi
tion, they are crammed full of general information at a much younger age than their parents did or even by comparison to those 10 years older than themselves. Older adults that are college graduates and PhD's could never hope to compete with the amount of knowledge that a 15-year-old child of the future will have. Children with very quick minds will be able to access information much more rapidly. How does that make you feel?
The slow method education will be of the antique past… opening books and actually turning pages, going to the library, asking questions from real people! Of course, this is not about every child, everywhere, but still, in third world countries there is a great effort to get computers into the hands of as many children as possible, even if they have to use a crank generator for power. As disseminators of the Buddhadharma, we must also observe the ramifications of new education methods because the children are the sangha of the future. This sangha of the future should be of great interest to you as budding bodhisattvas. This is the freshness of dharma! ~ Domo Geshe Rinpoche ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
